CBD Dosage Guide for South Africans: How to Find Your Perfect Dose
The most common question we get from SA CBD buyers: 'How much should I take?' It's also the hardest to answer definitively — because CBD dosing is highly individual. But there's a clear framework that works for most people.
The Start-Low-Go-Slow Rule
The universally recommended approach: start at the lowest effective dose and increase gradually every 5–7 days until you find your sweet spot. This minimises waste, allows your endocannabinoid system to adapt, and helps you identify exactly what dose works for your specific body.
Dosing by Body Weight (General Guideline)
- Under 60kg: Start with 10–15mg/day
- 60–80kg: Start with 15–25mg/day
- 80–100kg: Start with 25–35mg/day
- Over 100kg: Start with 35–50mg/day
Dosing by Goal
General wellness and stress management typically requires a lower dose (10–25mg/day). Sleep support: 20–40mg taken 30–60 minutes before bed. Anxiety management: 25–50mg/day, split into morning and evening doses. Chronic pain or inflammation: 40–80mg/day, often split across 2–3 doses.
How to Calculate mg from Your Bottle
Check the mg on the label (total CBD per bottle) and divide by the number of ml. Example: 1000mg in a 30ml bottle = 33mg per ml. If your dropper is 1ml, one full dropper = 33mg of CBD. Measure carefully for the first few weeks.
- Calculate mg per ml from the bottle label
- Use a consistent time each day for your dose
- Track how you feel in a simple note on your phone
- Give each dose level at least 5–7 days before increasing
- If you feel nothing at 50mg after 4 weeks, consider a different product or higher-concentration oil
"Dosing CBD is more like finding your fitness routine than taking a painkiller. It takes patience, but once you find your dose, the results are consistent."
