    The Ultimate Grinder Buying Guide

    James MokoenaJames Mokoena

A quality grinder is one of the best investments you can make for your smoking setup. It ensures an even, consistent grind which leads to smoother, more flavourful sessions. But with so many options on the market, how do you choose?

    2-Piece vs. 4-Piece

A 2-piece grinder is the simplest — just a lid and a base with teeth. It gets the job done but offers no kief collection. A 4-piece grinder adds a screen and a kief chamber, letting you collect the fine trichomes that fall off during grinding. Over time, you'll build up a nice stash of potent kief.

    Material Matters

    • Plastic/Acrylic: Cheapest, but teeth dull quickly and can chip
    • Aluminium: Best value for money, lightweight and durable
    • Zinc alloy: Heavier, very durable, good mid-range option
    • Titanium: Premium, virtually indestructible, keeps sharp forever

    What Size Do You Need?

Small (40–50mm) grinders are pocket-friendly and perfect for on-the-go use. Medium (55–63mm) grinders are the most popular and suit daily home use. Large (75mm+) grinders are for heavy users or those who like to grind in bulk.

Our recommendation for most people: a 55mm, 4-piece aluminium grinder. It offers the best balance of price, performance, and portability.
